Why \”The Way\”?

The world we live in tells us that each person should choose their own path to live how they see fit. Jesus does not agree. He calls us to follow the Way that he has laid out for every person to follow. He actually goes even further than that and claims that he himself is the Way we must follow. Jesus expects his followers to attach their lives to him so deeply that they would be known to belong exclusively to His way, The Way (Acts 9:2; 19:9, 23; 24:14). There is one Way to God. His name is Jesus. Our lives must follow after his movement in the world.

\”Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (Matthew 7:13-14)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” (Acts 16:17)
But this I confess to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our fathers, believing everything laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets, having a hope in God, which these men themselves accept, that there will be a resurrection of both the just and the unjust. (Acts 24:14-15)

The Way in Brooklyn

Since the summer of 2016, a diverse collection of Brooklyn residents have spent time together studying the Bible to better know Jesus and the way He would have us to live. (See the “Brooklyn Bible Studies” page under the “Connect” tab for the current list of studies.) This site, with its information and free resources, is intended to further extend the movement of the Gospel here in Brooklyn. Our goal is to encourage more and more people to take part with us as we seek to know and follow the way of Christ.
TheWayBK is not a church or ‘religious organization’ per se. (Though we here at TheWayBK are part of a church family. If you are looking for information regarding a church here in Brooklyn, please see the \”Church Community\” link under the \”Connect\” tab.) We are not hoping or trying to draw people to follow us. Our aim is simply to promote the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to help people to know Him as both Lord and Savior, and to encourage obedience to His commands for our lives which we learn about through His Word, the Bible. Our hope is that we may contribute in some way to God’s work for everyone in Brooklyn (and beyond) to hear and respond to that Gospel.
Our work is guided by three core values that the Scripture teaches should be fundamental to the lives of God’s people: Gospel, Truth, and Love. You can read more about these vital concepts in the Scriptures below.

Core Values

Gospel
The good news that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Christ sent from God to be the Savior of the world is the fundamental worldview that should dictate every Human being’s life. Jesus has become the Christ through his life as a man, death on the cross for our sins, resurrection for our justification according to the Scriptures, and ascension to become the sovereign ruler over Heaven and Earth. His Kingdom rule provides rescue from sin and death for all who are loyal to Him.

Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God,and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:14-15)

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:16-17)

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-5)

Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel (Philippians 1:27)[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=\”44px\”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=\”\” row_type=\”row\” use_row_as_full_screen_section=\”no\” type=\”grid\” angled_section=\”no\” text_align=\”left\” background_image_as_pattern=\”without_pattern\” background_color=\”#efefef\” css=\”.vc_custom_1514332287274{background-color: #efefef !important;}\”][vc_column css=\”.vc_custom_1514332598405{padding-bottom: 10px !important;}\”][vc_column_text]

Truth
God has designed the Universe and Human beings to live by objective realities that cannot be denied. These truths that dictate every dimension of life can only be learned to the fullest extent through the divine revelation from God that He has communicated through Human messengers which we have record of today in the collection of writings known as the Bible.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27)

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:19-20)[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=\”44px\”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=\”\” row_type=\”row\” use_row_as_full_screen_section=\”no\” type=\”grid\” angled_section=\”no\” text_align=\”left\” background_image_as_pattern=\”without_pattern\” background_color=\”#efefef\” css=\”.vc_custom_1514332287274{background-color: #efefef !important;}\”][vc_column css=\”.vc_custom_1514332598405{padding-bottom: 10px !important;}\”][vc_column_text]

Love

In order to be in harmony with God and our fellow man, each of us must live a life of Gospel-based, Truth-defined Love. We must love God, our Creator and Father, with everything we are, think, and do in response to His love for us. We must love our neighbors as our selves.

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:36-39)

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. … So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:1-3, 13)

The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
